The current edition of the GNU Source is CD-ROM set #17 (March 2003).
The 16th edition contains uncompressed data. This means that if you
have limited disk space, you can read the files directly off the
CD-ROM drive without having to load them. For this reason, we still
offer this version for people with older systems.
GNU Source Code CDs include no compiled programs, so you will
need a C compiler and some skills in order to run the software. We
ship C compiler tools for some systems on the GNU Compiler Tools Binaries CD-ROM or
the GNU Software for MS-Windows and
MS-DOS. GNU packages that need another compiler or interpreter
normally provide the C source for a bootstrapping program.
The contents and manifest for version 16 are posted here. Contents is an alphabetical list of package names
and version numbers. Manifest (70K)
is a long list of brief descriptions of each top-level text file and
each program package.
